Virgil van Dijk: Liverpool have nothing to lose in Premier League title race
Ahead of Liverpools trip to Man Utd, live on Sky Sports, Virgil van Dijk sat with Laura Woods to Discuss title race, That Both the Old Trafford clash and himself as a Participant.
Liverpool will go in the game top of the Premier League table – eight points ahead of champions, Manchester City – using they being already touted by a few observers since this seasons victors.
But Van Dijk has brushed aside pressure as Liverpool seem to keep the momentum from their Champions League title triumph and the expectation.
In an exclusive interview with Woods ahead of Renault Super Sunday, the Netherlands international explained:I dont think weve got something to lose. Man City will be the champions, theyre protecting their name and we want to receive it. In my perspective, we just have to go for it.
The strain gets bigger, but that stems in the press. They love to put pressure on us and that with. Because I am not interested in what other individuals say, I do not mind, I need to win.
We definitely need to enjoy it [being top of the Premier League] and be full of confidence, especially with the way we have got these points, never been the best matches but getting the wins.
There are so many games left, so you cant actually think about it [winning the title] – its not sensible. Its the better position to be in and we dont, although we should not.
I dont watch Man Citys matches but I have family and friends who text me say anything, particularly after the Wolves game [when City lost 2-0]. We have learnt which we do not have to look before the conclusion of the effort to the others although that is just a part of life. So far, we have been doing but Man City are certainly not moving away.
The hunger [to win trophies] is even more than it had been before [winning the Champions League]. Everybody would like to experience it again. It had been such a great day with everything and the that began in the home with the game against Barcelona.
We all have dreams, all of us have targets. Together with the Champions League all of us began it is exactly the same with all the Premier League and the contest hoping to acquire it. Hopefully itll happen this year but if not, then we proceed again .
Liverpool have won all eight of their Premier League fixtures up to now, however there are still aspects because they aim for their first league title since 36, to tweak.
Theres definitely room for advancement – managing the games a bit better, sometimes teams are playing against us and they wish to beat us and they never stop trying. Im considering Sheffield United when we performed away, how hard it was there and credit to them, they pushed us directly to the end, generated minutes.
There were times in the match when we had big opportunities but in the present time, we attempt to grind out these games too and I believe that its very important.
Sundays game is among the biggest in soccer as Liverpool traveling to perform with Man Utd at Old Trafford, live on Sky Sports. Their older foes have struggled this year in 12th with two points – a whopping 15 points behind Liverpool.
Man Utd will be without midfielder Paul Pogba along with goalkeeper David de Gea one of a raft of accidents currently ravaging the group, but Van Dijk is not and concentrated on the Reds their opponents preparations.
He said:For them, it is not the ideal place to shed your first-choice goalkeeper, among the finest on the planet, and among their main midfielders. Theyll be disappointed but for us, we just need to focus on ourselves.
They want to bounce back to all they have done this season and it is not what they have wanted so far, but we want to head out there and expand our points tally and continue winning.
Theyre not in the ideal way, theyre not entirely confident and theyre not at the case they want to be in. But the thing about soccer is you can bounce back in any game. They may think that is the event but we know that. Fight for every single metre on the pitch and we would like to go outside and attempt to take the three points straight back to Liverpool.
Its massive, but it is more enormous for the lovers. I think all the Champions League games are equally as big as this. Contributing to the actual game and the atmosphere is larger than some other games but I do not think its the largest of the year. The big ones would be the Champions League and also those which are going to win us the Premier League title
Van Dijk has shrunk since coming at Liverpool in January 2018, going on to win numerous accolades, such as the PFA Players Player of the Year along with UEFA Mens Player of the Year.
He has begun in 60 and it reflects in Van Dijks decided mindset.
I need to get involved with every game, he added. They are the most fun component of being a football player anyway, to go out there and show your abilities to the planet, try to acquire a match with a group you train with day in, day out.
Its not simple, you will want to care for yourself and with the life we live, it is very important to leave a good deal of things. For example, we perform with four matches in the next 11 days, so youre travelling and staying in hotels and you have to see what you eat, drink and ensure that you recover nicely.
Im not complaining, not at all, but you want to care for yourself since at the conclusion of the day, the individuals are visiting the scene to see you play and it is irrelevant when you had a cold the day beforethey would like you to flip up on matchday.
That is why its very important to look after yourself and a large part of this is staying fit. So far, Ive been doing this and I can keep doing it.
My function is precisely the same with or without the armband. I try to take responsibility because in my situation, I must and I want to also. I tried to lead the boys from behind and most of the time, Ive a summary of the whole pitch so that I can try to shout into the front three, if they hear it or never.
About me well with the goalie, the full-backs, or the midfielders, I try to yell at them, while it is nonsense or things that are essential and have to get said. I believe its a very important factor in football. Occasionally they must shout to me too and they will.
