Mike Sexton Leaving WPT to Become PartyPoker Chairman

Mike Sexton, who joined the Poker Hall of Fame in 2009 announced he is leaving WPT. He has been on the scene for 15 years. WPT has become one of the most recognizable and powerful brands in the world with him as their face.
Among his best achievements are a World Series of Poker bracelet and a WPT title won in Montreal the previous year. Sexton has collected more than $5 million from prize pools in his career so far.
A Road With Many Turns
Even though Sexton is leaving WPT he is not quite done with poker yet. He has been working with PartyPoker for years and naturally he will take a chairman position there.
The company went through many difficulties in the past 10 years or so and certainly needs a boost. The 2006 Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) was especially tough for PartyPoker since the room was forced to leave the US market. It has never fully recovered from this blow.
The Bright Future
Sexton, however, remains very optimistic about the future of PartyPoker. The poker star believes he can help PartyPoker return to the top where they once were. He stated that he is very excited about this opportunity and is ready to work with people who love the game as much as he does. He also made one thing quite clear, he is not aiming for second place, it’s first or nothing. Considering his reputation and popularity, he certainly is a nice addition to the PartyPoker team.
